Health, Safety and Environmental Expertise

Mr. Colvin has more than 30 years of experience in identifying and solving problems in the Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) field. He has extensive experience including Hazmat, geophysical testing, and evaluating the severity and breadth of contamination in air, water and soil. He has developed systems for relative risk assessment of hazards from asbestos, lead, mold, noise exposure and musculoskeletal demands during field and office work. Mr. Colvin assessed potential cancer risk to firefighters in their fire house living quarters, and potential cancer risk for recreational use on Astroturf and crumb rubber surfaces. He coordinated with NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) to conduct a study comparing musculoskeletal demands of police officer wearing their duty gear on vests versus the more conventional duty belt. He became an expert in Behavior Based Safety (BBS) and safety culture enhancement utilizing ongoing coaching and peer to peer evaluations. Mr. Colvin has presented his sampling and data findings to various governmental boards and agencies and during professional conferences.

INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE, PERSONAL INJURY & ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION

He has written several publications including the OSHA Reference Guide, Safety Orientation for New Employees, and Safety Training Curriculum Guide among others for CIRSA, (a municipal insurance pool in Colorado), and CIRSA’s members. He is skilled at various ergonomic software programs that quantify specific joint force demands and relative risk of injury in complex field operations involving heavy forces and repetition. Mr. Colvin has inspected thousands of buildings and operations including water and wastewater and manufacturing plants, public works and fleets facilities, police and fire operations, recreation centers, water slides, playgrounds and marinas. Relative to comfort and health concerns, Mr. Colvin has expertise and professional training in mechanical systems such as electrical, HVAC and fire protection systems along with proper storage and use of materials and chemicals. He has identified potential structural and building issues and damages that may be related to soils, water, and climatic conditions.
