Materials and Metallurgy
Investigation and Analysis
WERC forensic engineers evaluate metallurgical issues related to failure of vehicle components, engines, pipeline, metal structures, machinery, plastic components and many other products. Western's engineers are also skilled in metal joining processes including Gas, Plasma, MIG and TIG welding.
Metallurgical investigation is often instrumental in evaluating the cause of product or material failures. Material and or material joint fractures are often an element in a product failure or accident.
WERC also provides evaluation and analysis related to cutting tool failures, surface inspection, corrosion and degradation issues and manufacturing process design.
Western Engineering has performed metallurgical evaluation of numerous material and joint failures on components as diverse as playground equipment, surgical medical screws, automotive steering, catwalks, hand railings, scaffolding, pipe, wheelchair lifts, toilet parts, and many others.
These evaluations often involve analysis of the design and material selection process and the suitability of the material for the intended application, as well as installation procedures.
