Electrical System Failure Investigation and Analysis

The National Academy of Engineering proclaimed electrification to be the greatest engineeringachievement of the last century. Today, electricity powers and controls our buildings, vehicles, machinery, equipment, and appliances.
When WERC is called upon to determine the cause of a fire, explosion or mechanical failure, we often find the problem rests in electrical systems. That is why WERC performs a wide assortment of electrical investigations and testing on everything from electronics to power systems.
Jeffrey Sellon, PE, WERC's senior electrical engineer has years of hands-on experience with forensic failure analysis as well as design, start-up and troubleshooting of electrical power and control systems. He has also worked as an electrician.
When Denver International Airport could not open and was reportedly losing $1,000,000 per day because its new baggage system did not work, Mr. Sellon was one of the hand-chosen engineers retained to fix the problem, get the airport up and running and stop the flow of red ink.
WERC's extensive laboratory allows us to test a variety of products and equipment.
Some of the types of investigations commonly performed by WERC:
- Power and Control Systems
- Hazardous
- Industrial
- Utility-Pole Line Clearances
- Fires, and Explosions
- Accident Investigations
- Grounding
- Lightning Strikes
- Component and Circuit Boards
- Vehicle fires
